How To Give

You can help us in many ways, including through financial support, as well as personally volunteering for our various events. The following information will help you get involved with our Association.

Donations

Our volunteer parent Association is dependent on donations to operate. We provide Parent Education sessions, professional development, Newsletters, Web Site and Resource materials. These items would not exist if it were not for the donations from parents, family members, friends and local businesses. Please help us to help you by making a donation to ease and enrich your journey in raising gifted children.

Here are ideas to reduce taxes, give back, make a difference, play a part. When we give, we attain a greater sense of connection with people and community. The gift of time and expertise is a generous way to help our non-profit Association. Alternatively, monetary support or a planned gift is an incredible way to create a legacy, either now or in the future. This type of charitable gift can have significant tax benefits.

Here are some examples.

GIFT OF SHARES: Gifts of publicly listed securities include stocks bonds and mutual funds. Albertans who donate publicly listed securities to a charity do not have to pay capital gains tax on the growth of those shares. This became effective in May, 2006.

GIFTS OF REGISTERED ASSETS: A charity of your choice can be named as a beneficiary of either an RRSP or a RRIF, and your estate will receive a tax receipt for the value of your gift.

LIFE INSURANCE: There are at least five different options to give the gift of life insurance, resulting in a significant contribution at relatively little cost and eligibility for a charitable tax receipt.

CHARITABLE TRUSTS: A charitable remainder trust may be created with cash or securities. The remainder interest of the fund is donated and held in trust for the charity.

Volunteers

Parent Volunteers are pivotal to providing Education Sessions for parents, fundraising, enhancing communication and advocating for quality education for gifted. Please see the volunteer position descriptions to participate where you can. Link To Form

Casino Volunteers

We hold a casino every 18 months to support the schools with GATE programs in providing curriculum support materials, external content experts, field trips, technology that the classrooms would not normally have. The funds raised benefit your children directly and are crucial to support extraordinary learning initiatives. We require general managers, cashiers, chip runners and backups for each casino. Please volunteer to help. There is the added benefit of meeting other parents, getting a good meal and parking is paid. It is actually a fun time!
